KCPT presents its holiday gift to the community as “Scrooge The Musical” opens Fri. Nov. 27 and plays through Sun. Dec. 20 at Key City Playhouse. Featuring over twenty-five local actors, many playing multiple roles, “Scrooge” is adapted from the classic Charles Dickens ghost story “A Christmas Carol” and set to lively music by Leslie Bricusse.

“This is in many ways the biggest show we’ve ever done at the Playhouse,” comments KCPT Artistic Director Denise Winter. “It’s the classic Victorian Christmas story enacted for this beautiful Victorian town as a heartwarming musical.”

Directed by Denise Fleener with musical direction by Beth Noelle, “Scrooge” is the fifth and final mainstage production of KCPT’s 2009 season and is generously sponsored by SOS Printing and Robert and Sharon Wenzler.

The title role is brought to life by Daniel Stengel, who began acting on stage and television in Southern California as a teenager and is now a tenured professor at Peninsula College.Tiny Tim (Brennan LaBrie) dreams about “The Beautiful Day” when “the sun will shine in the sky for me” Photo by Phil Baumgaertner.

The role of Tiny Tim belongs to nine-year-old Brennan LaBrie, a “Time for Kids” reporter who has captured attention with his appearances at the Port Townsend Film Festival with Cloris Leachman and on NPR’s “Morning Edition.”

The show features Jeff Randall and Emmy Graham as Bob and Ethel Cratchit, Jeff Kelety as the Ghost of Jacob Marley, Russell Waddel as The Young Scrooge, Paul Krabill as Topper, and Liz Dennison, Catherine McNabb, and Richard Weston as the three Christmas Spirits.

The cast also includes Olivia Noelle, Willow Noelle, Dave Cunningham, Bill Davis, Amy Dahlberg, Lynne Cassella-Blackburn, Austin Krieg, Misha Cassella-Blackburn, Scott Noelle, Kirit Bhansali, Dalana Smith, Christina Carpentier, Murren Kennedy, Amanda Stuerer and Maggie Wegener.

Madeline Levy adds violin to the musical score that includes the songs “I Hate People” and “December the 25th.” Choreography by Denise Winter is featured throughout the show from high-stepping ensemble numbers (“Thank You Very Much”) to the ghostly antics of “I Like Life.”
