A Financial Seminar Musical

Directed by Denise Winter

The show has completed its five-week run.  Thank you all!

"[Y]ou really do have to laugh at Boyce and Melinda Peterson... the 'Sonny and Cher of financial planning'...  Fleener and Johnson [are] the perfect combo for this production... [T]hey gave no less than 120 percent of them-selves...  Leave your stuffiness at the door, and give yourself permission to gut laugh and snort your way through this one."  — Kathie Meyer, PT Leader

Description

The year 2020.  President Sarah Palin's faith-based economy

has collapsed -- Where can we turn?

Here's the perfect comedic cure for our plunging portfolios.

The lively songs parody everything from

country ballads to acid rock, with a rousing finale that

would make Bruce Springsteen proud.

From the writer of  "A New War" (KCPT 2006) and Broadway's "Jackie -- An American Life."

The Songs:

Rockin the Money / Rollin’ the Green        (Ka-Ching!, Ka-Ching!, Ka-Chang!, Ka-Chang!)
Toxic Assets        (Heavy death metal)
Stimulus        (Sexy funk)
Portfolio        (Oh, Where Did You Go?)
All the Best Things in Life        (Old school country music)
New America        (Springsteen style stadium rock anthem)

From the Cape Cod Times:  Local playwright-director Gip Hoppe was in Germany — directing "Der Schuh Des Manitu," a hit musical that spoofs American Westerns — when the stock market crashed last year. So he had the unusual perspective of watching the economic meltdown from outside the U.S.

Now, after being asked to write a show for Payomet Performing Arts Center in Truro this summer, he's also steeped himself in what American TV talking heads have been saying about the economy so he could offer his own spin on the issues. What he came up with is a "musical financial seminar," which is set up — really — as a hotel-ballroom-style investment seminar.

From The Barnstable Patriot:  Debuting at the Payomet Performing Arts Center at the former Air Force base in North Truro is Boyce & Melinda Petersons' Investment Strategies For The Post-Money World. The musical is set in 2019, shortly after President Palin’s resignation and the total collapse of the global economy.

“It takes place at an investment seminar, run by Boyce and Melinda Peterson, a husband-and-wife financial adviser team who transitioned themselves from failed music careers,” said Hoppe.  “I thought how fun could this be,” Travis said. “A musical set at an investment seminar would open up a lot of possibilities.”
