Call for 2017 apprentices — Looking to gain professional experience in theater? Applications for apprenticeships for the 2017 season are now being accepted.
KCPT offers full season apprenticeships to recent graduates planning a career in the theater and looking to gain professional experience in a facilitated, mentored environment.View 2017 Apprenticeship Opportunities
KCPT apprentices contribute to every aspect of operating a small theater company from full participation in staff meetings, to heading up specific projects, to sharing in everyday administrative and maintenance tasks. Apprenticeships may be tailored to fit the interests of the individual. Production opportunities include the chance to work in technical direction, stage management, design, sound and lighting, and backstage running crew on mainstage and second stage productions. Other apprenticeship opportunities include work in literary management; grant writing and development; marketing and publicity; education and outreach; and arts management.
Full season apprenticeships are full-time positions that require substantial weekend and evening time, especially during production. Some flexibility may be possible. Apprentices are paid a monthly stipend with housing and some local transportation provided. A few partial-year production apprenticeships are available on a per project basis.
KCPT offers summer or per show internships to high school and college students looking to expand their theatrical experiences. Internships are offered in all areas of production and administration.
Internships are non-paid. If interns wish to receive academic credit for their internship it is the intern’s responsibility to make arrangements with the sponsoring institution. Academic credit is up to the discretion of the intern’s high school, college or university. KCPT will provide the sponsoring institution any necessary reports or evaluations.
Applications for internships are accepted on an ongoing basis.
To apply for either an apprenticeship or internship, please submit the following:
- A cover letter with a personal statement about your goals in theater and areas of interest, why you are particularly interested in working with Key City Public Theatre, and whether you are interested in a full season apprenticeship, or a summer or per show internship.
