KCPT’s Shakespeare in the Park presents “The Comedy of Errors”

Laugh along with the Bard in Port Townsend’s waterfront Chetzemoka Park

Port Townsend, Wash.— A set of identical twins? How about two sets of identical twins separated at birth and unexpectedly reunited after 33 years? A delightful summer tradition returns as Key City Public Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” in the beautiful setting of Port Townsend’s Chetzemoka Park.

Opening Friday Aug. 7, this year’s “Shakespeare in the Park” production is generously sponsored by General Pavement Management and runs through Sunday Aug. 23. Admission for the family-friendly event is pay-what-you-wish, with a suggested donation of $15 ($10 for students).

“The Comedy of Errors” is one of Shakespeare's earliest, shortest and most farcical plays, with slapstick, puns and wordplay in abundance. It tells the story of one whirlwind day as Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio arrive in Ephesus — which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant Dromio. When the boys from Syracuse encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps lead to wrongful arrests, a comical seduction, theft, madness, and even a touch of demonic possession.

The troupe of 20 local actors features Alex Lovett in the roles of both Antipholus of Syracuse and Antipholus of Ephesus. The twin Dromios are played by Jesse Wiegel and Raven McMillen.

Samantha Brasier-Agnew plays Adriana, wife of the Ephesus Antipholus, who encounters the Syracuse twin and finds her “husband’s” behavior baffling. Rosaletta Curry plays Luciana, Adriana’s sister, who attracts the eye of the Syracuse twin, much to everyone’s further confusion.
