Ahoy,
ye maties!
Local musicians will present an evening of seafaring songs
and passionate storytelling on Saturday, October 3rd at Key City
Playhouse with showtime at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Vickie and
Michael Townsend, "The Water is Wide" will feature tales from
the sea, and songs of ships and sailors.
Michael and Vickie Townsend have played music together for more
than fifteen years. Their interests include Cajun and Cuban
styles, and they treasure this annual opportunity to share a
variety of tunes in an intimate acoustic setting. Previous
musical evenings have included "Murder Ballads" in 2007 and
"Hell & Heaven" in 2008.
Joining the Townsends again are Daniel Deardorff, renowned
storyteller, and Judith-Kate Friedman, vivacious
singer/songwriter and educator. Daniel and Judith-Kate, when not
traveling around the world spreading their message of joy, have
delighted and inspired Port Townsend audiences for some time
now.
A special guest this year is maritime singer Matthew Moeller, a
son of Puget Sound and veteran of tallships, schooners, steamers
and ferryboats. Rounding out the night are contributions from PT
poet-at-large Bill Mawhinney and photographer Rachel Ganapoler.
Key City Playhouse is located at 419 Washington Street in Port
Townsend. Tickets available for $12 at Quimper Sound or $14 at
the door.
