KEY
CITY PLAYERS HIRES ARCHITECT
Key City Players has hired theatre architect Andrea Wickham of Seattle
to design preliminary plans for its new theatre to be constructed at 1128
Lawrence Street in Port Townsend’s historic Uptown District.
Wickham received her BA degree in Drama from Kenyon College in 1989 and her
Master of Architecture Degree from Yale University School of Architecture in
1996. She has designed performance spaces including theatres for the Dodger
Stages Off-Broadway Theatre Complex in New York City and the New York
University Tisch School of the Arts.
Commenting on her selection as architect for the project, Wickham said, “I
am thrilled to be working with Key City Players. The project is particularly
exciting for me as it combines two important aspects of my life, theater and
architecture.”
Planning documents for the new 150 seat state-of-the-art facility will be
completed by June. The theatre will feature a thrust stage, a lobby
with box office and restrooms, a rehearsal room, dressing rooms, a light and
sound control room, a scene shop, a costume shop, storage for furniture and
props, and administrative offices.
A Capital Campaign to raise funds for the new theatre and the Lawrence
Street property will be officially launched this summer.
