For Playwrights

Key City Public Theatre has an ongoing commitment to new work.  New plays by Constance Congdon, Wendy MacLeod, and Gip Hoppe have been produced in our last five mainstage seasons.  Our 2010 mainstage season featured the West Coast premieres of new plays by Gip Hoppe and Joanne Schmoll.  Our 2011 season featured a World Premiere by Mara Lathrop.

Each February, KCPT's annual Playwrights' Festival features productions of one-act plays by playwrights from Jefferson County, Washington -- and workshops of new full-length plays and musicals by regional playwrights (writers based in Washington, Oregon, Idaho or British Columbia).

At the 2011 Festival, we workshopped "The Martyrdom of Washington Booth" by Jeni Mahoney, "Antarktikos" by Andrea Stolowitz, and a new musical by Linda Dowdell.  Check out our 2012 Festival schedule...

Key City Public Theatre provides several programs for local playwrights, including Playwrights works-in-progress nights, an opportunity for writers to hear their working scripts read and receive feedback.

In collaboration with the PT Arts Commission, a nationally-recognized playwright conducts a free playwriting workshop in Port Townsend annually.  This event is part of our KCPT Playwrights' Festival.

Also, the Port Townsend Arts Commission sponsors an annual One Act Play Competition for playwrights in Jefferson County, Washington.  KCPT produces the winners as the centerpiece of the Playwrights Festival.
